Leeds United news as former transfer target named in top five prospects in Europe

Former transfer target named in top five prospects in Europe

Leeds United worked hard on a deal for Croatian defender Josko Gvardiol in the summer before they played their first Premier League season in sixteen years. They were ultimately unsuccessful as the player chose to move to RB Leipzig in a deal which saw him loaned back to Dinamo Zagreb for the season.

Gvardiol made his debut in a top European league at the beginning of this season, playing under now Leeds manager, Jesse Marsch at Leipzig. Since then he has gone from strength to strength and his reputation has grown to the point that CIES Football Observatory have named him as one of the top five players in Europe under the age of 21 and the highest ranking defender.

Although Leeds will feel they missed out on Gvardiol, they will be aware that had they completed a deal for the Croat, Pascal Struijk would likely not have made his breakthrough as a genuine first-team player.

Every option for Kalvin Phillips as Leeds United man has huge decision to make

Over the international break, there was a growing sense of inevitability over the future of Raphinha at Elland Road. The Brazilian is being courted by Barcelona and many feel that it is a formality that Leeds' star winger will move to a Champions League club in the summer.

However, rumours have also swirled around Kalvin Phillips throughout the season, after the Leeds academy product's profile rose enormously when he starred for England in the belated Euro 2020. Although he has spent time out injured this season, rumours still abound and the England international will have a decision to make this summer as he will certainly have offers to leave Leeds.

The Whites are determined to keep Phillips and he has said before that he is keen to sign a new contract to remain at Elland Road. Read on for an overview of the options Leeds' number 23 has this summer.

Leeds United 'to listen to offers' for Robin Koch claims report

Leeds may be set for a busy summer as they look to overhaul an aging squad after a season where they have battled relegation throughout. Primarily, they will want to concentrate on who they will be able to bring in as they hope to climb the Premier League table.

However, some players may leave and according to reports, Robin Koch is one of those that the club will 'listen to offers' for. The German was signed as a centre back but has barely played in his favoured position due to spending a lot of time out injured and finding Diego Llorente ahead of him in the pecking order when he has been fit to play.
