Leeds United news as former England star lists his bottom three with Whites relegation verdict

Here are your latest Leeds United evening headlines for Wednesday, April 12.

Leeds United tipped to avoid relegation from the Premier League

Glen Johnson has tipped Leeds United to avoid relegation from the Premier League at the end of the season.

Leeds sit 16th place and two points from danger with eight games remaining after losing 5-1 against Crystal Palace at Elland Road on Sunday.

The Whites have amassed 10 points from seven games under Javi Gracia in the Premier League, and former England, Portsmouth and Liverpool right-back Johnson does not expect Leeds to be among the clubs in the bottom three.

"I believe West Ham will do enough to stay out of danger," Johnson told Betfred. "I think Southampton are the clear favourites to down and I believe Everton and Nottingham Forest will be relegated alongside them.

"Leicester City have a lot more to give than they're giving so if Dean Smith can get them going, then they should have enough firepower to stay up."

'Quality' Leeds United star Georginio Rutter backed to fight for starting role next season

Paul Robinson has backed Leeds United forward Georginio Rutter to compete for a starting role next season after he claimed the striker has not "been given an opportunity" to prove himself yet.

Rutter's record-breaking January transfer move to Leeds brought with it a sense of optimism and hope that the former Hoffenheim forward could transform the club's attacking options. Unfortunately for both the 20-year-old and the rest of the team, it hasn't been the explosive start that many had hoped for.

The Frenchman is adapting to life in the Premier League and it is safe to say that many players before him have demonstrated that just because things don't get off to a flying start straight away, does not mean that he can't cut it in the long-term.

Richard Keys slams former Leeds United manager Jesse Marsch after Leicester talks break down

Former Sky Sports pundit Richard Keys has slammed former Leeds United manager Jesse Marsch after talks between him and Leicester City broke down over the weekend.

The American was reportedly 'not convinced' by the Foxes' performance in their 1-0 loss to Bournemouth on Saturday afternoon and therefore decided to cut off talks despite them being in an advanced stage.

This marks the second time that Marsch has turned down an offer to stay in the Premier League and manage one of Leeds' relegation rivals, having turned down an offer from Southampton after they sacked Nathan Jones in February - something Keys can't understand.
