Ex-Leeds United star fires 'focus' message to Wilfried Gnonto amid exit whispers
Former Leeds United star Danny Mills has told Whites winger Wilfried Gnonto to focus on improving instead of looking for a move away from Elland Road.
Despite only joining Leeds in September of last year, the Italian international's burst onto the Premier League scene has seen his stock in the transfer market rise dramatically.
And with the precarious position Javi Gracia's side find themselves in, it's no wonder many teams are looking to swoop in for the 19-year-old who has a very promising future - one that Mills believes must be kept at Elland Road at all costs.
“He’s exciting, he’s a bundle of energy but his numbers aren’t amazing," Mills said to the Sun earlier this week. "Two goals he’s got. He’s been fantastic to watch but you have to turn around at some stage and say, ‘You need a bit more end product’.
"He gets in fantastic positions, he’s a pocket rocket, up and down, all over the place. But only two goals, for a winger in this day and age in the Prem, he needs more than that.
"I’ve seen too many young players leave too soon. A lot of them have done that from Leeds. Players like Jack Clarke to Spurs, Sam Byram to West Ham, went too early.
"You go from starting to not playing football as often and that’s hard to take. Take another season, back yourself, forget the money, it’s not about that now. Focus on games, matches and minutes under your belt and improve as an individual."
Leeds United told they're a 'Championship side' as trio singled out following Liverpool collapse
Former Liverpool and Fulham midfielder Danny Murphy says Leeds United look like a Championship side without Max Wober, Tyler Adams and Liam Cooper in the starting XI. The latter of the trio has been involved in the Whites' matchday squads but has played just 16 minutes of Premier League football since Javi Gracia took charge, with the other two out injured.
Leeds have crumbled in the month of April conceding 16 goals, with 11 of those in their last two. They're still two points above the drop but they know every game counts with seven games left in the current campaign.
The 6-1 defeat to Liverpool is the first time Leeds have conceded six goals at Elland Road in Premier League history and Murphy believes players' confidence will be destroyed.
Paul Robinson slams Leeds United for having no Plan B as he asks Liam Cooper question
Former Leeds United shot stopper Paul Robinson has slammed the Whites for lacking a plan b and doesn't understand Liam Cooper's exclusion at Elland Road. The Whites captain has played just 16 minutes since Javi Gracia arrived at Elland Road, albeit the Scottish international was struggling with an injury when the Spaniard first arrived.
Since returning to fitness, Cooper has had to settle for a place on the bench bar as an unused substitute, bar a late cameo against Arsenal. The Whites have been accused of lacking leaders in their fight against relegation.
But, they'll feel somewhat aggrieved by the manner in which the floodgates opened against the Reds. VAR did not look into Trent Alexander-Arnold's handball in the build-up to Cody Gakpo's Liverpool opener, but that may not have mattered with Jurgen Klopp's side scoring five more goals.
