Jon Newsome asks Leeds United 'naivety or arrogance' question amid manager hunt
Former Leeds United defender Jon Newsome has claimed that he can't work out whether his old club's failure to find a replacement for Jesse Marsch is down to 'naivety' or 'arrogance'. The Whites have now not had a permanent fixture in the Elland Road dugout for two weeks after sacking the American following the 1-0 loss to Nottingham Forest.
Despite being linked with now over a dozen names, none have made the move to the Whites who are currently headed by interim boss Michael Skubala.
"I don’t know whether it’s possibly naivety or whether it’s a touch of arrogance," Newsome told BBC Radio Leeds. "You know what we’re going to sack our manager, we’ve got a list of managers who are all in work and we’ll go and get one of those.
"I don’t know whether that’s naivety or arrogance but it’s not that easy to go and get a manager out of a football club if that football club has a) got a decent contract that surrounds the manager and puts the football club in charge and b) you’ve got to then entice the manager.
"Like Arne Slot, he is top of the league with Feyenoord. It’s a really, really big ask to ask, you want to walk away from them halfway through the season and not see out, maybe win a title and come to Leeds United who are fighting relegation."
Josko Gvardiol lifts lid on Leeds United 'option' under Marcelo Bielsa amid Premier League dream
Red Bull Leipzig defender Josko Gvardiol has revealed that he had the chance to sign for Leeds United under Marcelo Bielsa before he chose to join the Bundesliga side.
Gvardiol played every game for Croatia during their run to the World Cup semi-finals and has quickly become one of the most sought after defenders in Europe. The 21-year-old impressed during his time in Qatar and has since been tipped with a move to the Premier League, with a number of top-flight clubs reportedly interested in his services.
And now Gvardiol has revealed that before he made the move to Leipzig back in 2020, Leeds were also bidding to take him to Elland Road.

Graeme Souness says Leeds United should have 'got themselves out' of the relegation zone
Graeme Souness has admitted that he is "not sure anymore" about Leeds United's chances of staying in the Premier League following their 1-0 defeat to Everton.
Illan Meslier's near-post misjudgement proved to be one of the most pivotal moments in Leeds' relegation battle so far this season. Seamus Coleman's speculative effort saw Everton claim all three points and leapfrog the Whites in the table, when a win for Michael Skubala's side would have seen them move four points clear of the Toffees.
Elsewhere, victories for both Southampton and Bournemouth over Chelsea and Wolves respectively also piled on the misery for Leeds this weekend. There was some light relief as both Leicester City and West Ham United lost to Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur - with Leeds remaining just one point behind the Hammers and five off the Foxes.
