Leeds United news as ex-star highlights £50m financial 'hole' Whites must avoid

Here are your Leeds United evening headlines on Sunday, April 16.

Paul Robinson points out £50m financial 'hole' Leeds United must avoid

Former Leeds United goalkeeper Paul Robinson has claimed that despite having to pay out almost £50 million in player bonuses, Leeds United must avoid relegation back down into the Championship.

The Whites will be faced with having to pay out £42m of bonuses to its stars if they manage to stay up, according to the club's financial records which were released last week.

"The wealth you get from staying in the Premier League dwarfs that figure. That’s a drop in the ocean compared to the lump sum, TV money, and package they will get for staying in the Premier League," Robinson told MOT Leeds News.

"£50million would be a drop in the ocean and that’s why it’s structured like that. Whereas if they’re in the Championship, they will have to pay out £50million out of the parachute payment and all of a sudden that’s a big hole and that becomes a problem."

Jurgen Klopp's Liverpool have 'nothing to lose' in Leeds United 'fight' at Elland Road

Jurgen Klopp insists his Liverpool side have nothing to lose at Elland Road on Monday night. The Reds have had a disappointing season by their usual standards and know they need to be at their best if they want to secure European football next season.

On the other hand, Leeds United head into the game just two points above the Premier League drop zone, with a win a huge result for either side. The Liverpool boss has spoken to the media to alleviate any pressure on his players and admits he's looking forward to the clash at Elland Road.

Klopp told the Daily Mail: "We expect (Leeds) to be on their toes, massive fight, proper atmosphere. It will be a tough one but we have to build on two games where we were good or in moments really good. We will try to do that."

Leeds United warned over costly lasting impact of Crystal Palace 'capitulation'

Clinton Morrison believes Leeds United's second half capitulation against Crystal Palace could prove costly at the end of the season.

Leeds dominated large periods of the first half and took the lead through Patrick Bamford's header after 21 minutes. However, Marc Guehi equalised on the cusp of half-time, and Palace ran riot in the second half. Jordan Ayew headed the Eagles into the lead shortly after the interval, and Eberechi Eze doubled their advantage moments later.

Odsonne Edouard was then sent through on goal by Michael Olise, who registered a hat-trick of assists, to add a fourth for Palace. Ayew compounded Leeds' misery by bagging his brace 13 minutes from time.

Leeds sit 16th in the Premier League, and just two points clear of danger, and Morrison has warned that goal difference could play a huge role in the battle for survival this season.
