Here are your Leeds United evening headlines on Monday, March 14.
Smith's bemoans decision
Dean Smith feels like his Norwich City side should've got something out of their game against Leeds United.
It's a crushing blow in the relegation battle for Norwich but this was a carbon copy of what fans saw in the 3-1 defeat to Chelsea on Thursday night. Poor first-half, better in the second.
"Mixed emotions," Smith told the Norwich City club website. "I wasn’t happy with the first half performance again, but was pleased with the second half performance and felt we should have got something out of it.
"Ultimately, both boxes have cost us and that’s why we are where we are in the league at the moment.
"With our final delivery, we had some good moments in the first half, even though I thought they were the better team, but our final ball wasn’t quite good enough. It was the same in the second half.
"With their first goal, the ball has been played to Patrick Bamford and he’s offside. He makes us head it. The game knows it’s offside, unfortunately, the law doesn’t."
Phillips makes Firpo claim
Former Sunderland striker Kevin Phillips believes that Junior Firpo has played his final game for Leeds United after he suffered what looked to be a serious knee injury.
The 25-year-old was taken off on a stretcher late on in the 3-0 defeat against Aston Villa last Thursday amid fears he could miss significant game time.
Firpo has made 15 Premier League starts since making a £13million move from Barcelona last summer, but has received some criticism after failing to impress during his time at Elland Road so far. And Phillips also doesn't believe that he has a long-term future at the Whites.
"It looks like he’s picked up a really bad injury there, first of all," he told Football Insider. "But it’s just really not worked for him in a Leeds shirt at all.
"I don’t think they have time to mess about in the transfer window now. They can’t stand by and wait for him to reach the required level; they need him to be ready now.
"If they were to drop down to the Championship that could be a more suitable league for him to find his feet in, but that obviously isn’t the ideal scenario for them.
"Hopefully he can make a speedy recovery but I wouldn’t be surprised if he’s not around next season."
Lampard worried about Everton's relegation chances
Leeds United and Everton were not sides predicted to be embroiled in a battle for Premier League survival but have been dragged into one nonetheless.
The end of Rafael Benitez's ill-fated tenure marked the beginning of a new era for Everton and Frank Lampard was chosen as the man to spearhead it.
An old adversary of former Leeds boss Marcelo Bielsa from his days at Derby County, the 43-year-old was given a two-and-a-half year deal by the Toffees.
However, he has failed to revive the club and their recent home defeat to Wolves ended with fierce disapproval from supporters inside Goodison Park at the full-time whistle.
Lampard said: "I've played for 20 years and I have seen plenty of reactions from crowds.
"I can't stand there and say 'Thanks very much for helping us play so well against Brentford and Leeds and Manchester City' - and deserve more in that game - and not expect that the fans that want the team to do well, want the team to stay up and get wins, will not have reactions.
"I don't put an emphasis on Goodison Park, I want to get points everywhere."
