Here are the latest Leeds United evening headlines on Friday, 25 March.
Summerville on Marsch arrival
Leeds United winger Crysencio Summerville has revealed that new manager Jesse Marsch has told him he will get his chance in the first team if he continues working hard. Summerville is yet to make a single appearance for the Whites following the appointment of Jesse Marsch last month.
The 20-year-old made eight appearances for Leeds across all competitions under previous boss Marcelo Bielsa, though his last one came in the 2-0 FA Cup defeat to West Ham United in early January. In an interview with Elf Voetbal, Summerville is confident he will get his chance to play under Marsch, while he also opened up on his feelings when he made his Leeds debut.
He said: “I haven’t played since the new manager took over in February. He opts for security, for the experienced boys. He stresses that I have to train really hard every game, keep working really hard. Then my chance will definitely come again.

“I really didn’t expect that (his debut). My teammates already told me, ‘Cry, be ready’. I did not really believe in it. But around the 55th minute, I was told to start warming up. Then everything went really fast. Raphinha suddenly stood on the sideline and gestured that he wanted out. I had to go to the assistant, and before I knew it, the switchboard with my number 38 went up. I was really nervous.”
Poveda plans
Tony Mowbray has confirmed that Blackburn Rovers have been in contact with Leeds United over a potential return for Ian Poveda before the end of the season. The winger has been out of action since November after sustaining a serious ankle injury.
He was forced to have surgery on the issue and is fighting to return to full fitness ahead of the final run in. Poveda is still at Thorp Arch as he continues his recovery and while he is yet to take part in full training, Mowbray is still hoping to get Poveda back before the final day of the campaign.
He told the Lancashire Telegraph: "We’re in touch with Leeds about Poveda who is back on the grass doing light stuff with them. He’s not ready to play football yet. I know we are still paying a part of his salary. If he comes back that will be good.
"If he doesn’t because he’s not going to get match fit, I hope he gets himself fit and well. If Ian comes back, we will be happy to see him. He’s a nice kid, he works hard and brings a bit of quality. So, if he does come back, that will be good."
Leeds’ World Cup representatives
The 2022 Qatar World Cup is fast approaching and there are many Leeds United players who will be vying for a place this year's tournament. Due to the extreme heat in Middle East, the competition will be contested across November and December, rather than the usual summer months.
A total of 19 teams have already qualified for the World Cup, while there are still 13 places to fill from a number of continents. A whole host of the current Leeds squad will be hoping to represent their respective countries at the tournament and so with that in mind, LeedsLive have taken a look at the Whites stars who will be hoping they are on the plane.
