Here are the latest Leeds United headlines on Thursday, July 6.
Charlie Cresswell reaches European U21s Championship final
Leeds United defender Charlie Cresswell's England U21s side are celebrating reaching the final of the European U21s Championship after a semi-final victory over Israel on Wednesday evening.
Goals from Morgan Gibbs-White, Cole Palmer and Cameron Archer sealed a 3-0 win which sees Lee Carsley's side reach their first final in the competition since 2009, as they seek a first success in the tournament since 1984.
Cresswell was an unused substitute in the win, but will be hoping to play a part in Saturday's final against Spain, who saw of Ukraine 5-1 in last night's other semi-final.
The knock-on effect for Cresswell and Leeds means that England's extended progression in Georgia will inevitably delay the centre-back's return to Thorp Arch for pre-season training, ahead of a season in which the 20-year-old will be looking to force his way into the first-team picture after last season's successful loan spell at Millwall.
Leeds' first pre-season friendly takes place in Oslo on Wednesday, when they take on Manchester United.
Leeds United exit warning from Farke amid deadline-day view and Hammond talks
Myriad transfers are coming for Leeds United in a relentless two months which will see the current squad transformed before deadline day. Daniel Farke was clear on day one, after intense talks with Nick Hammond, the squad he inherits this week will not be the group he sends into battle from September 2 onwards.
The manager and interim football advisor, each hired within the last three weeks at Elland Road, will become critical figures in the reshaping of this relegated squad. Diego Llorente, Robin Koch and Brenden Aaronson will be the first of last season’s senior names to move on, but they will be far from the last.
While Farke is arriving relatively late in the summer compared to most close-season appointments, he has made it clear talks with Hammond began well before his eventual signature on Tuesday. They may be behind schedule, but this is not a group of decision-makers beginning from a standing start.
Marcos Abad’s farewell message as six-year Leeds United spell comes to an end
Marcos Abad has thanked all those he's come across at Leeds United as he six-tenure at the club comes to an end. The Spaniard arrived in 2017 with former director of football Victor Orta, after working alongside his compatriot in Elche and Middlesbrough.
His departure comes following Daniel Farke's arrival at Elland Road this summer, with Eddie Riemer, Christopher John and Chris Domogalla all arriving in tow. Although none of them are goalkeeping specialists, Abad has been shown the exit door.
The Spanish coach has worked under Thomas Christiansen, Paul Heckingbottom, Marcelo Bielsa, Jesse Marsch, Javi Gracia and Sam Allardyce, helping tutor regular starters like Felix Wiedwald, Bailey Peacock-Farrell, Kiko Casilla and Illan Meslier.
