Leeds United 'make Alfred Schreuder decision' following Elland Road sighting

Alfred Schreuder is not being considered for the vacant Leeds United head coach role. That’s according to reports by the Athletic’s Phil Hay, who claims Schreuder has returned to his native Holland after being spotted in West Yorkshire over the weekend.

The 50-year-old, who was sacked by Ajax last month, was in attendance at Elland Road on Sunday to watch the club’s 2-0 Premier League defeat to Manchester United and he was seen later seen with club representatives. His time in Leeds was brief, though, it seems, with the reports claiming Leeds have decided against offering him the job.

Schreuder’s appearance at the game prompted a negative response from supporters on social media, with many pointing to his miserable record in Amsterdam, prior to his dismissal. As such, conversations with other candidates are continuing as the club look for the right man to take the reins and lead them to survival.

The Whites are keen to make a swift appointment and they’ll hope to have someone in place by the time Leeds go to Everton next Saturday, a game that could have huge repercussions at the foot of the Premier League table. United’s Under-21s manager Michael Skubala will remain in charge until a new head coach is appointed.

Skubala has been on the touchline for two first-team games so far, both against Man United, and he managed to lead the club to a rare point at Old Trafford. Unfortunately, they couldn’t build on it on Sunday, but Leeds picked up plenty of plaudits for the way they handled Erik ten Hag’s side prior to Marcus Rashford’s 80th minute opener.

Leeds have been without a permanent manager since February 6, when the decision was made to relieve Jesse Marsch of his duties following the club’s miserable showing at Nottingham Forest a day previous. Marsch spent just under a year in charge, but he left with the club perched precariously on the edge of the relegation zone.
