Leeds United midfielder Alfie McCalmont has joined Carlisle United on loan until the end of the season. McCalmont has been a regular in the Whites’ Under-21s side this season, but he’ll be keen to kick on at Carlisle in what will be his third loan spell away from Elland Road.
The 22-year-old will link up with the Cumbrians this week and he’ll have eyes on a debut under Paul Simpson on Saturday when the League Two club take on Newport County at Brunton Park. Carlisle are flying high at the top end of the fourth tier, currently sitting just outside the automatic promotion spot and McCalmont will be keen to help the club back into League One.
The Northern Ireland international has previously spent time with Oldham Athletic and Morecambe, but his game time has been restricted to youth football this season. He’s made six appearances for the club in the Premier League 2 Division 2, racking up a goal and two assists as Michael Skubala’s side chase promotion back to the top flight of youth football.

He’s had a couple of outings in the Papa John’s Trophy, too, but he’ll be looking to nail down regular first-team minutes in League Two for the remainder of the year.
McCalmont has worked his way through the youth ranks at Leeds, but he is still waiting to make a senior league appearance. His current contract is due to run until the end of next season.
