Abaci have never been too far from a Leeds United fan’s matchday arsenal in recent weeks with the Premier League constantly in flux as it tries to even out the fixture disruption of 2021/22. With two Covid postponements last December and a limited FA Cup run, the Whites have never been too far behind the pack on games played.
Their rivals, by stark contrast, have persistently been lagging behind Leeds with games in hand and totting up the points they could yet win to haul United into the mire. Burnley, for example, had four matches to play between the Watford and Crustal Palace clashes for the Whites.
The Clarets, Watford and Everton have long seemed to have that psychological hope of reeling Leeds in through the sheer volume of matches left to play. None of those clubs have shown anything to suggest why they would win those games in hand, but still, it’s been a spectre lurking in the background for Leeds.
