Pre-season begins on Monday with Jesse Marsch expecting the majority of his Leeds United players through the door to begin the 2022/23 journey. Those who have had international commitments will be given more time off to rest before they too begin the long, hard road to May 2023.
Of those who are expected back next week, there are some with question marks hanging over them from the back end of last season. Here is where United’s injury list is expected to be at going into week one.
Luke Ayling
The right-back went under the knife for knee surgery on May 19 and is expected to return to training in the autumn. Ayling was in Brentford on the final day of the season, just three days after that procedure, to celebrate with his team-mates despite wearing a brace on his leg.

Patrick Bamford
Bamford finally got over his long-standing plantar fascia injury and was considered fit enough to be selected at Brentford on the final day. However, in true 21/22 fashion, he was struck by Covid in the days before the match and left bed-bound.
The striker is expected to be fit and ready for the return to training under Marsch.
Stuart Dallas
The Northern Ireland international is not expected to play again until 2023, though he will be doing everything he can to return as soon as possible. The femoral fracture he suffered against Manchester City required major surgery and will need a long and patient recovery.
Adam Forshaw
The 30-year-old is expected to be fit and ready to start pre-season with the rest of the squad. Forshaw fractured his kneecap in April just a few days before the trip to Crystal Palace.
While that issue ruled him out for the rest of the season, Marsch said: “It should be a relatively straightforward recovery and by the summer he will be back and ready to go.”
Tyler Roberts
The forward defied all expectations to return for the final match of last season. After rupturing a hamstring tendon at Leicester City in early March, Roberts was expected to be done for the campaign.
While he was not called upon in Hounslow, Roberts was fit enough for the bench at Brentford. He is expected to be fine for day one of pre-season too.
Crysencio Summerville
The winger was another of those ruled out for the season. Summerville twisted his ankle in late April, but is expected to be fine for the start of the summer training sessions too.
