Leeds United injury list and return dates in full as Premier League opening day looms

With Leeds United's Premier League season set to get underway against Wolves on Saturday, Jesse Marsch won't have a full complement of players available to him.

There will be a number of absentees for the visit of Bruno Lage's side, although Marsch has provided an update on his injured players.

Here is the latest on every Leeds United player who is currently suffering with an injury, and when they are expected to return.

Liam Cooper

Despite travelling to Australia for the Whites' pre-season tour, Cooper didn't feature in any of the games. The Leeds captain also didn't participate in training during the tour, but he is now on the comeback trail following his Achilles problem.

Marsch said: “Liam Cooper has had an Achilles issue from his off-season programme from running on a treadmill. It’s taken him a long time to get back into training but this week he has been on the pitch doing individual work, finally.

“He will not be available this weekend but we’re hopeful that by next week he will be in team training.”

Junior Firpo

Firpo picked up an injury in Leeds' 4-0 pre-season win over Blackpool last month. Initially, Marsch said Firpo would be out for about eight weeks with the injury, but the left-back is 'ahead of schedule'.

Marsch said: “Junior Firpo had a scan today and is ahead of schedule. We can do more with him but I would say he is still probably two or three weeks away from being match eligible."

Luke Ayling

Another player who is ahead of schedule is Ayling. The right-back went under the knife in May after suffering a knee injury. However, the 30-year-old could be back sooner than expected.

Marsch said: “Luke Ayling has made a lot of progress after his surgery and is ahead of schedule and we’re trying not to pressure him too much but he is showing really positive signs that hopefully he can be in training in a couple of weeks."

Stuart Dallas

Having picked up a major injury against Manchester City towards the end of last season, Dallas isn't expected to return to action until 2023.

Marsch said: “Stuart Dallas has made really good progress and has had a couple of check-ups after the severe surgery and they feel like he’s right on track.”

Adam Forshaw

Forshaw picked up a knee issue against Crystal Palace in the Whites' final game of their tour of Australia.

Marsch said: “Adam Forshaw has made really good progress with a knee MCL issue, it’s not a pure MCL issue, it’s a little different than that. We’re hopeful that he will train next week."

Luis Sinisterra

It was a big concern when star signing Sinisterra was forced off during Leeds' draw against Crystal Palace. The winger was taken off with a hamstring injury, but could return for his competitive debut against Chelsea on August 21.

Marsch said: “Luis was on the pitch today and looking very good and he’s getting closer and closer to his top speed. So I would assume that he would be in training next week and hopefully be available for the weekend after."
