Leeds United news as Premier League rivals join race for Arnaud Kalimuendo

Here are the latest Leeds United headlines for Sunday, July 31.

West Ham join Kalimuendo race

West Ham United have reportedly joined the race to sign Leeds target Arnaud Kalimuendo. According to Goal France, the Hammers are keen on the 20-year-old, despite tying up a deal for Gianluca Scammaca from Sassuolo. Leeds' Premier League rivals could look at the PSG striker as an additional option to improve their attacking unit.

The Whites have been linked with Kalimuendo this summer as Jesse Marsch looks to recruit a striker to provide competition for Patrick Bamford, who missed the majority of last season through injury. Charles De Ketelaere was the number one target, but he is now AC Milan-bound, so other alternatives are being explored.

Marsch and Orta react to Maric appointment

Leeds United have appointed the 'perfect fit' as their assistant coach according to Jesse Marsch, as the Whites unveiled René Marić yesterday, subject to a work permit. The 29-year-old has had spells at RB Salzburg, Borussia Monchengladbach and Borussia Dortmund alongside former BVB boss Marco Rose.

Maric helped guide Dortmund to second place in the Bundesliga before departing the club earlier this summer. He's now set to join Marsch’s backroom staff alongside Ewan Sharp, Mark Jackson and Cameron Toshack.

Marsch said: “I’ve known René for a number of years and we’ve stayed in contact for a long time now. While we haven’t worked together before, we do know each other well and I believe he is the perfect fit for an assistant head coach."

Whites fans question Cresswell decision

Some Leeds United supporters have questioned the decision to send Charlie Cresswell on loan to Millwall after the Whites loanee scored a brace on his full debut for the club. The young defender opened the scoring after just 12 minutes, meeting George Honeyman's corner with a powerful header that flew past Joe Bursik.

The Whites loanee kept a clean sheet in the first-half with Millwall leading 1-0 at the break. He would add another to his tally just after the hour mark, slamming Scott Malone's corner into the back of the net.

Cresswell is set to spend the season on loan with the Championship club after departing Elland Road earlier this summer. He made five Premier League appearances for the Whites last season, but made the switch to the Den in order to get more game time.
