Leeds United goalkeeper Illan Meslier says his chances of being called up by France manager Didier Deschamps is firmly in his own hands.
France captain Hugo Lloris announced his retirement from international football after the 2022 World Cup, and his departure has opened up an opportunity for Meslier to stake a claim for a place in Les Bleus' squad.
Deschamps selected Mike Maignan (AC Milan); Alphonse Areola (West Ham), and Brice Samba (RC Lens) in his latest squad, with Maignan starring between the sticks for the 4-0 victory over the Netherlands on Friday evening.

Meslier has remained with the under-21s during the international break, and is confident that Deschamps will provide newcomers with a chance if he continues to produce consistent performances in the Premier League.
“When we perform well in the Premier League, when we are in the France Espoirs team, we always want to go higher," the Leeds stopper told Ouest-France.
"I'm a competitor, so that's a goal. At the moment, the cards are redistributed, places have become available. We give newcomers a chance.
"France has very good goalkeepers. It is the performance of each that will guide the choices of the coach. It's up to me to be good and regular."
