Leeds United Goal of the Season contenders as stunning strikes and vital goals vie for top spot

Jack Harrison's excellent strike to make it 3-0 to Leeds United's against Watford last weekend made certain of a vital three points in the Whites' quest to pull away from the danger of the bottom three. Coupled with Burnley's loss to Norwich City the next day, it meant Leeds are nine points clear of 18th place and sitting on 33 points.

The goal - and the result - will have allowed Leeds fans to breathe again after earlier results had dialled the pressure up on Jesse Marsch's side. Now though, Leeds are just two points away from 35, which has been enough to secure survival in the last five Premier League seasons.

As it is, if the Whites don't pick up a single point from now on, Burnley still need to win three of their final eight fixtures to catch Leeds. Given they have only won four all season, this seems unlikely.

As such, Leeds can now begin to plan more seriously for another season in the Premier League. With that comes major squad work in the transfer window but before that comes the matter of rounding up this season with the end-of-season awards.

Last season's was a joyous occasion, as Leeds finished ninth in the league and had many candidates for Player of the Season, alongside a wealth of beautiful goals to pick from for Goal of the Season. Harrison's strike at Watford may be a contender but here are Leeds Live's suggestions at options for this season's Goal of the Season.

Joe Gelhardt v Chelsea

This was the teenager's first senior goal for Leeds and his first in the Premier League. An excellent combination between Mateusz Klich and Junior Firpo saw Leeds advance the ball down the left and Firpo released Tyler Roberts to put a low cross on a plate for the youngster to finish.

The goal looked to have given the Whites a point at Stamford Bridge but unfortunately, a stoppage-time penalty won it for Chelsea.

Jack Harrison v West Ham (hat-trick goal)

Harrison's third goal - and the winner - at West Ham was another excellent finish from the 25-year-old. Leeds won the ball on halfway through Stuart Dallas and the Northern Irishman found Raphinha in a central area.

A throughball from the Brazilian was met by Harrison and he calmly dinked the ball over the onrushing Lukasz Fabianski to win Leeds three points in London.

Luke Ayling v Manchester United

This goal came on the season's opening day and although the game ultimately ended in major disappointment as Leeds lost 5-1 to Manchester United, Ayling's goal was a magnificent moment. It came early in the second half as Leeds looked to get back into the game at 1-0 down.

Dallas played the ball from the left into the centre, with Ayling arriving from a deep position. He took a touch out of his feet and fired a sweet strike into the far corner beyond David De Gea, sparking wild scenes in the away end.

Raphinha v Manchester United

Another goal which was a fantastic moment in an ultimately disappointing result. Leeds had been 2-0 down to Ralf Rangnick's side at half-time but a goal from Rodrigo had halved the deficit. Raphinha's goal was so special because it brought the Whites back to level terms less than a minute later, leaving Manchester United shell-shocked and Elland Road electrified.

Sadly, Leeds weren't able to find another goal after Raphinha slid in to finish Daniel James' low cross and they ended up losing 4-2.

Joe Gelhardt v Norwich City

This goal was a tap-in for Gelhardt but perhaps the most crucial moment in Leeds' quest to stay in the Premier League for a third season. In a must-win game, Leeds had led through Rodrigo since early in the first-half but missed a host of chances to make the game safe. Norwich subsequently scored in stoppage time to equalise, making the prospect of relegation seem much more likely.

However, Gelhardt - on as a last throw of the dice substitute from Marsch - leapt to win a header from a long ball from Illan Meslier. Raphinha raced onto the flick-on and into the penalty area.

The Brazilian rounded Tim Krul but looked to have gone too wide, only to cut the ball back to the six-yard-box, where Gelhardt was arriving to bury it and send Elland Road into raptures. That goal sparked a run of form which has seen the Whites pick up ten points in their last four fixtures and put them into the much more comfortable situation they now find themselves in.
