Leeds United evening headlines as Archie Gray set to be 'massive player' for Whites

Here are the Leeds United evening headlines on Saturday, October 1.

Archie Gray set to be 'massive player' for Whites

Sky Sports reporter Tim Thornton has said that 16-year-old Leeds United midfielder Archie Gray could be a 'massive player' for the Whites in the future.

Gray, who already has two assists for the Leeds Under-21 side this season in the Premier League 2 Division 2, was on the bench for Leeds' opening day match against Wolverhampton Wanderers but wasn't used.

He's currently out injured after stubbing his big toe at home, leaving him with a fractured toe and will be out for another two weeks according to manager Jesse Marsch.

Speaking to GiveMeSport, Thornton spoke about how he believes Gray could be something special in the years to come.

"The fact that he’s [Gray] been in and around the first team at his age tells you a lot. So, they don’t need to rush him.

"But he’ll probably get opportunities as the season goes on and if he can continue to develop, then he could be a massive player for Leeds in years to come."

Angus Kinnear details months of 'groundwork' that enabled Leeds United's late Wilfried Gnonto deal

Chief Executive Angus Kinnear has revealed months of groundwork allowed Leeds United to accelerate a move for Wilfried Gnonto. Confirmation of Gnonto’s arrival came after the 11pm cut-off on deadline day after a chaotic 24 hours of transfer activity at Elland Road.

After a failed pursuit of PSV’s Cody Gakpo, Leeds thought they had agreed a deal for Marseille striker Bamba Dieng. However, he opted against a move to the Whites in favour of Ligue 1 side Nice, where he eventually failed a medical anyway.

That prompted Leeds into bringing forward plans to sign FC Zurich’s Gnonto, with a deal having been able to be completed quickly as the early legwork of the deal had already been done. Writing in his pre-Aston Villa programme notes, Kinnear explained some of the details behind his signing.

Wilfried Gnonto forces Jesse Marsch into Leeds United u-turn with new signing set for 'big role'

Jesse Marsch has admitted he's had to revise his statement regarding Wilfried Gnonto after an impressive start to life at Elland Road. The new Leeds United signing had originally been touted as one for the future, with the head coach stating he wasn't ready for the Premier League.

However, the 18-year-old become just the first attacker to make three starts for the Italian national side in the post-war era, a sign of how high his ceiling is. Roberto Mancini is a big fan of the striker and his move to Leeds now looks to be a shrewd addition.

The hard working frontman has impressed Marsch upon arrival and is set to be a part of the Whites' squad to face Aston Villa this weekend.
