Leeds United defender Max Wober details 'nervous' feeling among Man City players after Rodrigo goal

Leeds United defender Max Wober admits he could feel the nervousness in the Manchester City team during the final minutes of Saturday's clash.

City ran out 2-1 winners at the Etihad thanks to a first-half brace from Ilkay Gundogan, the German scoring two almost identical goals. Riyad Mahrez twice found space on the left before cutting inside and laying the Blues captain off to place two wonderful finished past Joel Robles.

Pep Guardiola's side were completely dominant throughout and should have been out of reach, but an uncharacteristically wasteful Erling Haaland spurned several openings. Gundogan was handed a chance for a first City hat-trick when Pascal Struijk brought down Phil Foden, but the 32-year-old saw his effort strike the post.

RATINGS: Gundogan good but Haaland poor in Leeds win

Rodrigo pulled one back for the visitors inside a minute, capitalising on Manuel Akanji's poor header to fire home and set up a nervy finish, which Wober could feel on the pitch.

"Losing never feels good, but I think we made them nervous especially after the 2-1 in the last minutes," the Leeds defender told LUTV. "We could feel it on the pitch and also the fans in the stands. It was possible and it was in the air, one more chance and we could get a point. It was worth working hard for 95 minutes to get to this point."

City managed the game well for the final few minutes and were well-deserving of the win for their first-half dominance alone. Haaland could have had a hat-trick of his own before Gundogan missed his chance for one, and the German had completed twice as many passes as the entire Leeds team during the opening 45 minutes.

"We had a really tough first-half, just defending," Wober added on the game. "We weren't strong enough on first or second balls which was our game plan. We wanted to be annoying, get counter-attacks, win first and second balls, but they played around us and it was so difficult.

"In the second half we did a better job, had our chances, made it 2-1 but unfortunately couldn’t create any more chances for a draw. I think we showed good togetherness against and defensively that we are still alive and fighting for this club."
