Leeds United could need £30m overhaul this summer as dream transfer window is laid out

It seems barely a few hours go by without another Leeds United first-teamer being linked with a move away from the club this summer.

It was evident the moment relegation was confirmed last month that the squad would be due a major refresh. Loan players would return, out of contract men would be released, and underperforming deadwood would be cleared.

Few Leeds fans would bemoan the changes given the disappointment of last season. In fact, as results filter in from the Big Leeds United Forum, it’s becoming clear that supporters are expecting an overhaul.

So far, some 67% of the fanbase feel the Whites need at least five new additions, with 10% expecting more than 10 signings this summer. That would represent a serious statement of intent from the soon-to-be new ownership.

The changes won’t necessarily come cheap though, and when asked how much money needed to be spent on the squad before the season begins, nearly two thirds of respondents felt the club would need to dish out at least £30 million, and probably more.

Of course, those fees should be more than recouped in player sales. Tyler Adams could bring in £40 million on his own if reports this week are to be believed, while the sale of Wilfried Gnonto could earn the club half that figure again.

Marc Roca, Robin Koch and Illan Meslier are other names likely to depart, though how much of the money from player sales will be reinvested into the squad remains to be seen. After all, relegation is expensive, as financial experts will tell you.

If that money is reinvested in the playing squad, where should it be spent? Supporters have been pretty clear about that too – they want a new striker or two.

Patrick Bamford remains contracted and has an excellent Championship record, but fitness and reliability remain a concern. Rodrigo Moreno's future is considerably murkier, while Georginio Rutter is yet to show his credentials. No surprise then, that nearly half (49%) are calling on the club to strengthen in the goalscorer department.
