Five years after arriving from West Bromwich Albion, Tyler Roberts has departed Leeds United on a permanent deal. Championship rivals Birmingham City have paid an undisclosed fee, reportedly worth six figures, for the Wales international.
The 24-year-old arrived from the Baggies under Thomas Christiansen on the final day of the January 2018 transfer window. However, injury would prevent him from making his debut until August when Marcelo Bielsa started him in an EFL Cup win over Bolton Wanderers.
His first Whites goal would come in September that year as he struck a brace in a 3-0 win over Preston North End in the Championship. Roberts would become a firm favourite of Bielsa’s and he was a regular from the bench in those second-tier campaigns.
After spending last season with Queens Park Rangers, his final Leeds appearance will go down as the 1-0 defeat to Leicester City in March 2022, Jesse Marsch’s first match in charge. Roberts only scored twice in the top flight for United.

The forward celebrated exuberantly at St Mary’s Stadium when he finally scored his debut top-flight goal in the penultimate game of that campaign. The other strike came at home to Brentford last season on the day Patrick Bamford injured himself equalising in injury time for a 2-2 draw.
Roberts departs after 108 appearances, with 60 starts and nine goals in all competitions. A club statement said: “We would like to thank Tyler for his efforts during his time at the club and wish him every success for the future, he will always be welcome at Elland Road.”
