Leeds United, Aston Villa and Newcastle United reportedly interested in signing Darragh Lenihan

Leeds United are reportedly interested in a move for Blackburn Rovers centre-back Darragh Lenihan.

The Ireland international is out of contract at the end of the season and has been linked to a whole host of Premier League clubs ahead of a possible summer switch from Ewood Park.

TEAMtalk claim the Whites, Aston Villa and Newcastle United have all "registered their interest" in the defender.

The report claims that Lenihan would only consider signing a new deal with Rovers if they are promoted this season.

Tony Mowbray's men are currently sitting second in the Championship, just a point inside the automatic promotion places ahead of the final 15 matches of the campaign.

The 27-year-old has scored twice in 28 games for Blackburn this term and has made a total of 238 appearances for the club after making his debut in 2015.

Lenihan has been an integral member of the Rovers side that has conceded the fifth-fewest goals in the division - letting in just 30 times so far - keeping four clean sheets in their last five matches.

Leeds have struggled with injuries at the back this season, with Liam Cooper, Robin Koch and Diego Llorente all missing a number of matches.

Pascal Struijk has also been out for over a month with a foot issue but he seems to have recovered from that problem, starting the last three games.

Although Leo Hjelde has stepped up when called upon, the Whites could do with some extra quality and depth at centre-back given their worrying defensive record.

Only Norwich City (45) and Newcastle United (43) have conceded more goals than Leeds in the Premier League this season (40).

This could possibly be a reason why Lenihan is being lined-up and Bielsa has a history of trusting players who have come straight from the Championship following the Whites' promotion last summer.
