Tim Howard believes Leeds United need to change their approach to avoid being ripped apart in the Premier League. Another defeat on the road at Villa Park extended the winless run to seven in all competitions.
A staggering 33 goals conceded is the third highest in the division, with only Nottingham Forest and Bournemouth shipping in fewer. Maximilian Wober - a trusted Jesse Marsch lieutenant - has been brought in to shore up a leaky backline.
Former Everton goalkeeper Howard has blasted the Whites for their gung-ho approach, insisting it leaves them exposed defensively. That theory was proven right for Aston Villa’s opener as Leeds conceded from their own corner.

“Leeds simply aren't good enough in transitional moments,” Howard told NBC Sports. “They get hurt. They want the game to be wide open and frantic and that's fine, but they aren't able to control those moments.
“Today, they got hurt twice when they were attacking and on the front foot. They got hit for goals going the other way. It happens way too often with Leeds.”
Ex-Port Vale and Wimbledon midfielder Robbie Earle also slammed Marsch - suggesting a mentality shift at Elland Road may be the answer. He added: “He's got to win some games quickly. I hope he isn't in the dressing room saying ‘we were the better team today and we lost’ because pity doesn't get you anywhere in this league. It’s points.
“And today, yes, they played well. Yes, they've had more shots than Aston Villa. But their defensive structure is not good enough as a team. Their back four is not good enough. Individually as players and collectively as a group. That's something that has to change or Leeds these are going to find themselves in trouble.”
