Leeds United star Junior Firpo has met with the Dominican Republic's national team coach Marcelo Neveleff to discuss a "new national team project".
Firpo, who was born in the Dominican Republic, grew up in Spain and has represented the Spanish U21s. Due to his place of birth, the full-back is still eligible to play for the Caribbean nation and now it appears that they are keen to involve the Premier League star in the next stage of the country's football progression.
Having scored the winning goal against Southampton - his first Premier League strike for the club - Firpo has quickly emerged as a key cog in Javi Gracia's team for the rest of the season. And despite the previous criticism of the footballing set-up in his home-nation, the Leeds star now appears central to their resurgence.

"I play with the Spanish team because it is something that everyone would do," Firpo told Catalan outlet Diario Sport in 2019.
"Without disrespecting the Dominican Republic, it is not like they have very strong football power. The Dominican Federation is a bit of a mess. Let them fight each other and change it. It is my country, my origin and I feel Dominican."
Yet the Dominican Republic's official Twitter account took to social media to share that their new head coach Neveleff had held meetings with various footballers who are eligible to play for the national team, including Firpo - as they look to show the former Barcelona star that they have a plan for the country's next footballing steps.
"The national coach Marcelo Neveleff met with Pablo Rosario in France and Junior Firpo in England to tell them about the new national team project," a translated post read. "This Monday [Neveleff] arrived in Spain where he will visit several footballers who are active in that country."
