Leeds United ace Jack Harrison reveals training ground plan to 'expose' Brighton for second goal

Leeds United star Jack Harrison admitted that the Whites "knew we would be able to expose" Brighton after he scored a superb curled finish into the top corner during a thrilling 2-2 draw on Saturday afternoon.

Harrison's expertly taken goal 12 minutes from time saw Leeds claim a vital point at home to Roberto De Zerbi's side. A well-worked corner routine allowed Wilfried Gnonto to pick out the former New York City man as he calmly slotted the ball into the far corner from a tight angle inside the box.

It was the second time that Leeds had scored with a spectacular strike after Patrick Bamford's deflected effort in the first half cannoned off the bar and into the net from 20 yards out.

Speaking after the game, Harrison revealed that although he was disappointed not to have claimed all three points, the performance from Leeds can provide them with a platform to build on in their battle against relegation.

"I think we would have liked to win, especially at home," Harrison told LUTV. "We know they’re a tough side and we knew we had to be well prepared defensively and really organised going into this game and I thought we did a good job doing that.

"I just wished we would have capitalised on a couple more chances but a point at this point [in the season] is okay and we just carry on moving forward in the right direction."

Bamford's deflected effort just before half-time saw the two teams head into the tunnel level at the break, something that Harrison highlighted as a key turning point in the match.

"It was definitely good to get one [goal] back," he added. "It was frustrating letting the goal in after working so hard defensively but Patrick [Bamford] managed to get us back into it and it takes us into the half which gives us a chance to have a little bit of a breath and come out strong in the second half."

The Leeds man also admitted that he felt like there was nothing more he could do to avoid scoring in his own net, as he promised to work harder to avoid repeating a similar outcome in future matches.

"I tried to do everything I could, I tried to get to the ball quick but he [March] managed to get to the ball and touch it before I did," he added when asked about Brighton's second goal. "It’s a lesson learnt for me and I just have to be quicker in those situations."

It was his curling effort that brought Leeds back into the game and Harrison revealed that although the move was pre-planned, it did not quite go the way they had practiced on the training pitch at Thorp Arch.

"For us as team, getting that second goal was important and we tried to push on for the third in the final bit of the half but we just didn’t manage to get it.

"I had the idea in my head [to shoot], we knew we would be able to expose them in that area with the right foot. Normally it was Cree [Crysencio Summerville] but I decided to try it with my right foot and luckily for us it went in."
