Leeds Beckett University has issued support for students during the cost of living crisis including subsidised meals and absorbing rent at halls.
The university has said it is "determined to make a difference” amid the crisis and has created a package of support and initiatives to help students.
Some of the measures include affordable meals on campus everyday, a free shuttle bus that takes its students and staff between both Headingley and City campuses between 8am and 5.15pm, making gown rental free and supplying two free tickets for friends or family to attend Leeds Beckett University graduation ceremonies.

The support package also includes absorbed 80% of the increase in accommodation costs for halls where Leeds Beckett is the landlord and they’re also looking at ways to remove, reduce or subsidise extra course costs.
Peter Slee, Vice Chancellor, Leeds Beckett University said: “We know the current cost of living crisis is a very real concern for many of our students.
“While the national crisis means our own costs are increasing significantly, we are determined to make a difference where we can.
“We have worked with Leeds Beckett Students’ Union and colleagues across the university to create a package of support and initiatives designed to help with some of the extra costs students face.
“Our Student Support and Advice Team is on hand to support our students with financial information, advice and guidance.”
The package includes:
Rent
Like most things, the cost of renting has gone up. We’ve absorbed 80% of the increase in accommodation costs for halls where Leeds Beckett is the landlord, reducing the impact on Leeds Beckett students from 12.3% to 2.4%.
Food
We’re making affordable meals available on campus every day. From Monday 3 October, there has been a £2 hot meal on the menu every day at Beckett Food outlets on campus.
Travel
Also from Monday 3 October, a free shuttle bus has been taking Leeds Beckett students and staff between both Headingley and City campuses, making 13 journeys between 08:00 and 17:15.
Course costs
We’re looking at ways to remove, reduce or subsidise extra course costs, including materials and study visits across all our courses.
Supporting students to earn
By sticking to consistent timetables, this allows Leeds Beckett University students to plan part-time work around their learning.
Travel costs
We’re looking at how we can provide hybrid options (with the permission of our students) rather than asking students to come in for a single session so money can be saved on travel.
Graduation
We’re making gown rental free of charge and supplying two free tickets for friends or family to attend Leeds Beckett University graduation ceremonies.
