Here are your latest Leeds United transfer rumours for Thursday, January 19.
Brereton-Diaz
Villarreal are in advanced talks to sign Ben Brereton-Diaz from Blackburn Rovers, according to Football Insider. Leeds have been linked with the Chilean international for a number of months, while West Ham United were reportedly interested.
However, it appears Villarreal could be poised to win the race for his signature, with the La Liga outfit working on a deal to sign him permanently.
The report adds that the Yellow Submarine are 'confident' of finalising terms after holding discussions on Wednesday. Brereton-Diaz could join on a pre-contract agreement, although the possibility of signing him for around £8 million this month has also been discussed.
Leeds were interested in Brereton-Diaz last summer, but Blackburn fought off a number of Premier League clubs, including Everton and Fulham to keep him at Ewood Park.
The 23-year-old was reportedly still on Leeds' radar ahead of the January transfer window, but the Whites instead signed Georginio Rutter from Bundesliga outfit Hoffenheim.
Brereton-Diaz, whose contract at Blackburn expires in the summer, scored 22 goals last term, and has registered a further nine goals and four assists in 2022-23.
Chris Wood
Chris Wood would prefer to stay at Newcastle United and fight for his place, despite interest from both Nottingham Forest and Leeds regarding a loan deal until the end of the season.
Leeds have signed Rutter since Wood was linked with a return to Elland Road, although Nottingham Forest have emerged as the latest club to be credited with an interest in the New Zealand international.
The Times have claimed that Forest are 'working on a deal', and added that Wood is 'nearing' a move to the City Ground as Steve Cooper looks to bolster his attack.
However, as reported by Chronicle Live, Eddie Howe will need enough firepower in the final third in order to let Wood leave St James' Park on loan during the current transfer window.
Alexander Isak has just returned from a long-term thigh injury, while Callum Wilson struggled with illness over the festive period.
