Leeds teenager's shock as 'freshers’ flu' turns out to be blood cancer

A Leeds teenager who thought she had ‘freshers’ flu’ after her first term as a student in London was left reeling when she discovered she had blood cancer.

Arriving from Leeds to start an accounting and finance degree at London Metropolitan University in September 2018, Tegan Clarke, 22, was filled with excitement.

When she started feeling tired all the time, she assumed it was the stress of living away from home and only saw the doctor when concerned friends persuaded her to go, two months after her fatigue began.
