Leeds shooting suspect found in North Yorkshire house as armed police raid home

A man has been arrested this morning (June 13) in connection with a shooting at a home in Leeds yesterday. The 34-year-old man was arrested shortly before 7am by armed West Yorkshire Police.

He was arrested at a house in Little Smeaton, North Yorkshire. At around 3.25pm yesterday (June 12) a gun was shot, smashing the windows of two houses. The arrested man remains in custody.

A woman was also arrested at the Little Smeaton address on suspicion of assisting an offender. The incident remains under investigation by West Yorkshire Police detectives and the Firearms Prevent and Investigations Team.

A number of properties in Leeds were secured as searches got underway. Nobody was injured, police said, but armed police raided a house in Rosgill Drive in Seacroft at 8pm in connection with the shooting.

Senior Investigating Officer, Detective Superintendent Emma Winfield, said: “The criminal use of firearms is something we will always treat extremely seriously, and we are carrying out extensive enquiries to establish the full circumstances and to trace and arrest those responsible.

“We would like to hear from anyone who witnessed any part of this incident or who has any information that could assist the investigation. We appreciate that an incident of this nature will cause understandable concern in the community, and we will be continuing to liaise with our colleagues at Leeds District who will be maintaining an increased presence in the area to reassure people.”
