Leeds Sainsbury's worker in hospital after brutal attack in store

A Sainsbury's worker has been left in hospital with serious injuries after being assaulted last night.

Around 10.55pm on Sunday, October 20, a man entered Sainsbury's in Brewery Place, Leeds city centre. He then attempted to steal several items of the shelves and put them into a rucksack.

A male staff member noticed what the man was doing and approached him. The shoplifter then assaulted the worker.

The staff member was left with serious injuries to his head. He was taken to hospital in an ambulance.

Now West Yorkshire Police (WYP) are appealing for information regarding the incident. Anyone who was in the area at the time, witnessed the incident, or saw a man running off is asked to call police as soon as possible.

The man was described as wearing a face mask, grey Under Armour joggers, black shoes, a black coat/jacket with a black beanie hat with a white logo on the front and carrying a bright blue Adidas rucksack with a white adidas logo on it.

A spokesperson for WYP said: "Anyone who was in the area at the time and who may have witnessed the incident or seen a male running off from the area is asked to call Leeds CID on 101, or go online at www.westyorkshire.police.uk/101livechat quoting reference 13220641334. Alternatively, call independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111."
