Leeds Rhinos forward Morgan Gannon has been named on the shortlist to be crowned Super League Young Player of the Year. Gannon has enjoyed a breakthrough season at Headingley, becoming a first-team regular under Richard Agar and Rohan Smith in 2022.
And his stellar form has now been recognised by the England Performance Unit, who have selected the three-man shortlist for the Young Player of the Year. Gannon is included alongside Hull Kingston Rovers half-back Mikey Lewis, and St Helens superstar Jack Welsby.
In surmising Gannon's superb season to date, the panel said: "Morgan cemented his place within the Leeds team despite only being 18 years old and is made more remarkable that he plays in the forwards.

"His contribution to the Rhinos has seen him become a consistent performer for them in 2022. For a second year running, Morgan has been selected for the England Knights squad in 2022."
Gannon, as mentioned, is in the England Knights squad to represent his country this autumn, but some have gone a step further and suggested he could be an outside contender to feature in England's World Cup squad too.
That seems unlikely given his inclusion in Paul Anderson's Knights squad. But with another chance to impress in the Super League play-offs this weekend, it seems that Gannon could be set for further praise before the season is out if he beats Lewis and Welsby to the crown of Super League's best young player in 2022.
