Leeds residents vote Harehills the best place to live in the city

Leeds residents have named Harehills as the best place to live in Leeds.

With some many different areas to choose from, moving to the city can be a daunting task. Different areas offer different qualities and thankfully, Leeds has a bit of everything depending on where you want to live.

Leeds Live asked residents to determine which areas of the city are best. In a survey, participants voted between Leeds city centre, Aberford, Alwoodley, Armley, Beeston, Bramley, Burley, Chapel Allerton, Chapeltown, Cookridge, Cross Green, Farsley, Garforth, Gipton, Guiseley, Harehills, Headingley, Holbeck, Horsforth, Hyde Park, Killingbeck, Kippax, Little London, Meanwood, Middleton, Morley, Otley, Rothwell, Scarcroft, Scholes, Stanningley, Tingley, Wetherby, Wortley, Yeadon, and 'other'.

The results at the time of writing show the winner, narrowly, is Harehills. This may come as a surprise to many; the area has been associated with being a crime-stricken area in the past. But the east Leeds area is home to Banstead Park and affordable housing.

It is also home to St James' Hospital, and decent hotels including the Art Hostel - with pink fuzzy walls and industrial bed frames. There are plenty of places to grab a bite to eat in the area too.

With local butchers and greengrocers scattered across Harehills Lane it’s a truly wholesome shopping experience that harkens back to the good old days of going from shop to shop for your weekly fare. Runner up for best place to live is Chapel Allerton. It is a lively area with many cafes, independent shops, and restaurants. There are lots of houses to suit large families and it is not too far from the city centre.

Coming in a close third on the survey were three areas of Leeds. 41 percent of voters picked Morley, Otley, or Horsforth. Otley has acres of countryside thanks to Otley Chevin Forest Park. It is a great spot for people looking for a rural lifestyle, but there is also a busy local market and large community.

Morley has become one of the most popular areas to invest in in Leeds. The Victorian market town is popular with many young professionals, and Morley Bottoms is fantastic for food and drink. The suburb is home to the Morley Arts Festival, Morley Leisure Centre, plenty of parks and walks and is close to a huge IKEA at Birstall Shopping Park.

Horsforth is rapidly gaining in popularity. It is a picturesque Leeds suburb with excellent connections to the city centre, York and Harrogate. It is becoming one of the most sought-after places to live in the city. It's especially popular for families as it's in the catchment area for some highly rated schools.
