Leeds nature reserve slams plans to cut down trees for new houses

Rodley Nature Reserve has called for action to be taken against a planning application to construct 67 homes on the former Airedale Mills site.

The site, which goes along the River Aire, is reportedly home to lots of wildlife and the Reserve is criticising the developer’s plans to trim and remove many trees in the ‘ecology buffer’ zone of the application. This buffer was written into the initial application, but Rodley Nature Reserve says the removal of the trees, including two Weeping Willows, will “undermine the whole purpose of the zone”.

They also say the buffer is meant to provide shelter to wildlife, including otters who live in the area. Without the trees, they fear the local wildlife will be harmed.
