Leeds mum says blind daughter 'became a recluse' after school discriminated against her

A blind Leeds schoolgirl has become a recluse after her school, deemed ‘outstanding’ by Ofsted, discriminated against her.

Registered blind girl Phoebe-Lea Swales, 13, hardly receives any education, says mum Kimberley, after St. Mary's Menston Catholic Voluntary Academy was found guilty of unlawful disability discrimination last Wednesday (May 18) in a tribunal.

Kimberley, 48, says Phoebe has developed severe anxiety due to the school’s discrimination. The school failed to provide Phoebe with vital educational equipment so she could take part in lessons, which made her feel stressed and unable to cope with lessons.
