An Indian restaurant previously described as "unassuming" that is in the heart of Leeds has stormed into the English Curry Awards.
Jinnah restaurant Leeds, that boasts world champion boxers as some its most loyal customers was nominated in the best Takeaway and Home Delivery of the Year in Yorkshire and The Humber division. The English Curry awards, now in its 11th year, aims to celebrate the best Asian curry professionals and businesses in the UK.
Chefs, restaurants, takeaways, managers and curry schools will be honoured at a prestigious awards ceremony at the Birmingham Airport Holiday Inn, on August 22. Jinnah (Leeds) will be competing with another Leeds takeaway, Janota Tandoori, in the same category.

Jinnah owner, Sami Younis told Leeds Live he was delighted to have made the finals again. He said: "After winning it last year in our respective category we have once again made the finals and are hoping to win it again.
"The journey this year has been great we are delighted to make the finals again after winning in it last year we have made it into takeaway and home delivery of the year, won it last year. The secret to our success is our food and great service in which we get a lot of repeat custom our customer base includes world champion boxer Josh Warrington, IBO world champion Maxi Hughes, and also IBO world champion Hopie Price."
Other Leeds restaurants featured in the awards include Tharavadu Restaurant, which is competing to become South Indian Restaurant of the Year.
A spokesperson for the English Curry Awards organisers, Oceanic Consulting, said: "The English Curry Awards were one of our first and remain one of our best awards. Despite the many challenges facing the curry industry, these awards prove year after year how much talent there is satisfying all of our curry cravings.
"We have an abundance of talent and fierce competition this year.”
