Leeds Festival 2022 traffic warning as new closures to affect drivers using the A64 and Thorner village

Leeds festival 2022 will take place this month in the spectacular grounds of Bramham Park, drawing many thousands of fans. And this year there is a big change to traffic management during the festival affecting the A64.

The festival website explains that the one-way system on the A64 will this year be in place for the duration of the festival. So, between the Fox and Grapes public house and the A1(M) / A64 roundabout the road will be closed to all traffic travelling Eastbound. In previous years, the closure has just been at the start and end of the festival.

As one the biggest UK festivals, the music event is expected to see around 100,000 people attend on the August bank holiday weekend from Friday, August 26 to Sunday, August 28.

Returning after the restrictions of Covid-19, the music festival will be at full capacity and promises to be bigger and better than ever. This year there will be two main stages, instead of the usual one, to stop any clashing of the headline acts.

In total there are seven stages with six headline acts rather than the traditional three. Headliners include Arctic Monkeys, Rage Against the Machine and Bring Me the Horizon.

Leeds Festival 2022 road closure changes

New for 2022, the one-way system on the A64 will this year be in place for the entire duration of the festival. From 4.00am on Wednesday, August 24 to 15.00 on Monday, August 29 the A64 between the Fox and Grapes public house and the A1(M) / A64 roundabout will be closed to all traffic travelling Eastbound (i.e. from Leeds to York). Organisers have said they will take the closures off as soon as possible.

The extended closure period has been agreed with Leeds City Council. Organisers say it is a result of the opening of the new East Leeds Orbital Route (ELOR), as ELOR can be used as a diversion for local traffic.

Bus routes travelling along the A64 eastbound from Seacroft to the A1(M) A64 roundabout may be diverted.

The full list of road closures for 2022 has been confirmed. Kiddal Lane, Thorner village and parts of the A1 will be affected.

If your residence is within the closure areas, you will receive a road closure pass in the post by no later than Monday August 22. If you would like to check you are on the distribution list please email info@leedsfestival.com
