A couple, who arrived at Leeds Bradford Airport four hours early, have hit out at “scaremongers” trashing the airport and who caused them to go there far earlier than required.
Morley couple Jeanette Edwards, 55, and Tony Caspell, 51, arrived at the airport four hours early but were through security in just 25 minutes, they say it was a "piece of cake". They’d seen so many people complaining about the queue times, so were extra precautious.
Leeds Bradford Airport (LBA) has come under fire recently with numerous passengers complaining about “chaotic” wait times and missing their flights. It was named the joint worst airport throughout the UK.

The pair of holidaymakers arrived at LBA at about 10am for a 2.05pm flight to Palma de Mallorca. They’ve said it was “packed” but staff dealt with it well and any holdups in the queue were the fault of disorganised passengers.
Speaking from the sun streaked shores of Mallorca, sipping on a few bevs, the couple came to the defence of LBA. Jeanette, who’s a mother of four, said: “It was so organised. It was brilliant. I think people are giving it a bad name, there’s been a lot of scaremongering over it.
“We thought ‘oh god’, it was going to be crazy but when we got there, it was fine.”
Tony said: “There’s a lot of scaremongering going on but it’s one or two people. Let’s put the truth out there, social media likes a reaction. Once we’d checked in, which were a piece of p***, we were in and out of security within 20 minutes. It was organised so good.
“The problem we have is the people [passengers]. You need to get out your vaccination certificates, your belts off, perfumes out your hand language but people just kick off because it’s compensation culture. It’s not a problem with the staff.”
Tony, who works as biomedical support worker, says passengers were “ignoring” simple instructions from security staff, like removing liquids over 100ml or queuing considerately.
“The problem is, people don’t listen,” he vented. “We got there fours early as we expected a queue and there was nothing. We got through just as normal. It’s scaremongering.”
Jeanette, who works as ward house keeper at St James’s University Hospital, and Tony, wanted to spend their long wait time in an airport lounge but they were full up. They were on their holiday after Jeanette won a competition with Jet 2, the prize being a three-night stay in a five star hotel in Mallorca.
The couple have said for their next trip, a family holiday to Mallorca again in seven weeks, they’ll arrive at LBA with two hours to spare.
