Leeds Bradford Airport has been branded like a "theme park" after chaos continues to prevail at the airport as summer holidays are well underway.
On Monday morning between 3am and 5am more snaking queues were seen outside of the airport, leading through to security. Passengers reported waiting "in the cold" for over an hour amongst a sea of luggage and people, before check-in desks opened at 3am.
It comes after a passenger said she was "stuck" in the Yeadon airport on Sunday evening. The holiday goer on an arrival flight from Malaga said passengers got off the plane and when going through the airport they came to a locked door they couldn't get through.
At 11.15pm she said: "Finally rescued by Jet2 staff after being stuck in the airport returning from Malaga via Ryanair". A male passenger reported he was sat having breakfast in an LBA café on Monday morning when he saw a "man with a megaphone" who was calling people out of the queues to the front so they could make their flights.
One individual catching a flight at around 5am this morning said: "Took an hour from check in open at 3am to make it through security. It's like a really s**t theme park."
One customer reported that when they got to the Ryanair check out none of the self check-in tills were working, and marked with a large red cross. There has been no confirmation of them up and running again.
LBA previously said the ongoing issues are linked to lack of staff at the airport, and the airport is seeking new people to hire. Other customers who travelled from 8am and onwards this morning reported that they got through security in five minutes, and found a quiet airport.
This is a pattern which continues to occur at the airport, with early morning flights causing "shambles". "It must be the really early morning flights where the queues are ridiculous", one passenger said.
Despite the queues this morning, there have been no cancellations of flights today, and flights have been slightly delayed up to 20 minutes. This is a huge improvement in comparison with last week where a number of flights were cancelled and one plane seen "stuck" on the runway.
On Monday morning Leeds Bradford Airport warned customers via social media to not arrive early. A spokesperson said: "If you're due to travel from @LBIAirport this week, our official guidance is to ARRIVE NO EARLIER THAN THREE HOURS BEFORE YOUR FLIGHT DEPARTURE TIME. You can help to speed up your passage through security by familiarising yourself with the process."
One individual said: "Yeah but with all the carrying on and queues what if people miss flights then other staff are saying you should have got here earlier." Leeds Live have contacted Leeds Bradford Airport for an update on how the ongoing delays are being tackled.
