Across Leeds and the rest of the UK, many bank branches have been shutting their doors in cities, towns and villages, often leaving people with no alternatives.
In Leeds, this problem will see 10 bank branches close with no other bank branches operating in the area. For example, in Otley, the closure of Halifax has left local people with no other options for in-person banking.
Nearby in Guiseley, the local Barclays has closed, leaving people in the town in the exact same situation. This is not a problem which is confined to one section of Leeds either.

Rothwell's NatWest has closed its doors as well, with no alternatives in the local area. In other sections of the city, bank branches have closed but some options still remain.
In the city centre, two Halifax branches have closed while a HSBC has closed in Morley, another HSBC in Horsforth and a Barclays in Moortown. Leeds has more banks set to close this year than any other local authority area in the UK, with the exception of Cornwall, which will also lose 10 banks.

This can have a serious impact, especially on the elderly who often rely on their local bank branches to deal with their banking company. Many elderly people do not use the internet and cannot simply turn to online banking.
The closures of local banks has another impact as well as many tasks require a local bank branch, such as depositing cash into your account. It can also mean a long journey, either by car or public transport, to your nearest bank. For elderly people, this can often be impractical.
