Leeds Armed Forces Day 2023: Event, parade and everything you need to know

A festival of fun in honour of the British Armed Forces will take place in Leeds city centre on June 25.

The celebration, which begins with a traditional military parade led by the West Yorkshire Police Band, will occupy the length of Briggate. There will be stalls, stands, exhibitions – including a full-scale Spitfire replica – and other activities.

There will be musical entertainment from the Dishforth Military Wives Choir, the Daisy Belles and others. And if the weather holds, a 1930s Tiger Moth biplane will perform a flypast over the central shopping street.

A flag-raising parade in Victoria Gardens will take place on June 17 (10.30am).

Lord Mayor of Leeds, Clr Al Garthwaite, said: "Armed Forces Day is an excellent opportunity to celebrate the work of our armed forces both past and present while having a fun day out for all the family.

"I’m really looking forward to the wide range of events and attractions this year, and the grand raffle, with the chance to win a once-in-a-lifetime flying experience while supporting local armed forces charities and Armed Forces Day itself, makes it doubly exciting. I will be buying some tickets and wish the best of luck to everyone who enters."

A draw to win a flight in the same De Havilland RAF training aircraft has been launched. Raffle tickets for £1 are on sale at Leeds Box Office. All proceeds will go towards Leeds Armed Forces Day and local armed forces charities.

The lucky winner will receive a flight on the route of their choice from Breighton Airfield, near Selby, in the open-top aeroplane. The winner will also be able to take the controls for some of the flight.
