Lee Johnson talks Hibs recruitment as Jonny Williams transfer interest 'rekindled'

Lee Johnson has opened up on Hibs' recruitment plan with the capital club keen to rekindle their interest in Jonny Williams, according to reports.

The Wales midfielder was of interest in the final days of the January transfer window and it appeared he saw the appeal of a stint north of the border at Easter Road but the transfer was not done and he remained with Swindon Town. However, the 29-year-old is out of contract at the end of the season and Football Scotland report that the Leith side are still keen and could go back in for the playmaker.

Williams would bring vast experience to the Hibs team with 33 caps for Wales and two goals on the international scene. He's played most of his career in the high end of the English system before dropping down to League Two.

Johnson has revealed recruitment is 'never-ending' with the boss stating he reckons they will only have four or five weeks to get new faces into the club with the hopes of playing in European qualifiers - but if not the Viaplay Cup group stage starts early summer.

He said: “The whole recruitment piece is never-ending; it's got a constant flow to it. It's not only the players we already have like Josh Campbell, whose contract we've increased, we have discussions with younger players, or out-of-contract players as well and there's the free-agent market too.

"We're involved in conversations with certain people who we believe can add to our quality, and we can potentially convert loans as well, or take early loans particularly in this window, because I feel it's more condensed than normal.

"I think we'll have four or five weeks to recruit, hopefully because we're in the European qualifiers, but if not then the Viaplay Cup starts a lot earlier as well.”
