Lee Johnson Hibs injury update including Kevin Nisbet and Harry McKirdy ahead of Scottish Cup break

Lee Johnson has delivered an injury update on his Hibs stars including Kevin Nibset and Harry McKirdy.

The Easter Road gaffer watched on as his troops picked up a big 1-0 win over St Mirren to keep the heat on in the battle for the top six and European football next season. Elie Youan's strike with just under 15 minutes to play won the three points in Paisley and extended the Hibees unbeaten league run to five games.

They now sit fifth in the Premiership standings just one point behind fourth placed Livingston and eight behind capital rivals Hearts in third. The men from Leith have two weeks before their next fixture against Kilmarnock after being eliminated from the Scottish Cup in the last round to Robbie Neilson's men.

Johnson will be hoping the break can get him some of his key players currently on the sidelines back fit with Nisbet one that is possible to make that game on February 18. The Easter Road gaffer said: "I think that's possible. That will depend on exactly how he feels and we'll do all the testing required to make sure he comes back 100 per cent.

“This was the best case scenario as it was the lightest of hamstring strains. Nizzy has shown what a big player he is for us this season and we look forward to having him back playing shortly.

“Joe Newell seems a little but better than Harry McKirdy does. It's difficult to say [on McKirdy] in those first 48 hours but he's rocked his ankle and we'll need to make sure there's no weight-bearing on it and then we'll get it scanned in the next 48 hours."

He continued: “The biggest thing [over the next two weeks] is getting the injured players back fit. They've been tough, physical games. You don't want the rest in once sense because you want games, but given it's a cup week and no-one can advance on us, then we take the rest and get players like Jake Doyle-Hayes back and firing.”
