Lee Johnson 'closing in' on Hibs job as Easter Road side ready to name Shaun Maloney's successor

Lee Johnson is closing in on the vacant Hibs job, according to reports.

The former Sunderland boss is believed to have held positive talks with the Easter Road board, including Ron Gordon over the past couple of weeks.

And now Football Scotland report that he will be the man to replace Shaun Maloney, barring any last minute hitches.

The 40-year-old - who has also bossed Barnsley and Bristol City - has nine years of management under his belt and is seen as the ideal candidate.

Ex-Celtic and Scotland international Maloney only lasted FOUR months in the job after taking over from the axed Jack Ross.

He failed to land a top six spot, with Hibs having to settle for a bottom half finish in a nightmare campaign.

It is set to be a big summer for the capital club as they look to regroup and go again.

David Gray was installed as interim boss following Maloney's departure and he admits he would desperate to remain at the club in some capacity.

Speaking about his future after the final day win over St Johnstone, he said: That will be decided by the new manager and the direction the club wants to go in.

“Myself and Eddie May were asked to do a job until the end of the season which is now done.

“I’m comfortable with the situation in terms of where I want to be.

"I love working for the club, I really care about it so given the opportunity I would be desperate to stay.”
