Lee Carsley and FA youth team staff to scout England's potential opponents at Euro 2024

Lee Carsley and other England youth-team coaches will be on the ground in Germany this summer to scout England’s potential Euro 2024 knockout-round opponents.

England face Serbia, Denmark and Slovenia in Group C. If they finish top, they will face a third-place team from another group in the round of 16 and could then meet Italy in the quarter-finals, France in the semi-finals, and Spain if they reach the final on July 14.

Carsley, England’s Under-21s manager, and other FA coaches and support staff will attend specific non-England games this summer, producing scouting reports on potential opponents they could face later in the tournament and feeding them back to the analysts and coaches within Gareth Southgate’s staff.

James Ryder, performance analyst for the England U21s, and Tim Dittmer, head of coaching at the FA, are set to take a leading role in analysing the Three Lions’ potential opponents. England U19s manager Will Antwi, U17s head coach Greg Lincoln, and Carsley’s assistant, ex-England great Ashley Cole, are also expected to play a role.

While most FA staff will be out in Germany during the tournament, some will work from back home in the UK.

The same model of collaboration across the various England teams’ age groups was used during the Three Lions’ run to the 2022 World Cup quarter-finals and to the final of Euro 2020.

England are widely seen as one of the favourites to win Euro 2024, along with their World Cup conquerors France.
