As part of his collaboration with Sony Group Corp’s (NYSE: SONY) PlayStation, four-time NBA champion LeBron James opened up about his close ties with the console.
In a promotional video submitted on his Twitter account, “King James” talked about the role of gaming in his life: “[It was] a huge part of my childhood and a huge part of my life now. It was a way to bring us together, have fun, enjoy and compete. We went at it a lot.”
Moreover, the Los Angeles Lakers star revealed that his favorite genre of video games is sports games and that he enjoys playing Electronic Arts Inc’s (NASDAQ: EA) “Madden” the most.
“I’ve loved that game more than any game in my life. Nothing ever compares or comes close,” the athlete emphasized.
James also disclosed how he manages to squeeze gaming into his tight schedule. “I’ll just go downstairs before everybody wakes up, and play video games around five or six in the morning,” he said. “It’s my coffee hour.”
Lebron’s partnership with PlayStation, which launched on July 27, consists of a Limited Edition DualSense Wireless Controller ($79.99) and a PS5 Console Cover ($64.99).
When asked to describe his feelings from this collaboration, the winner of four MVP awards said: “This is super surreal.”
And added: “I remember I was a kid, unboxing my PlayStation for the first time and grabbing the controller. To sit here today, and having my own special edition controller… I’m lost for words.”
James is a four-time NBA champion where he won two with the Miami Heat, one in his second stint with the Cleveland Cavaliers, and one with the Lakers.
Like many NBA stars, James has appeared in many NBA game consoles for Playstation and Xbox games.
“My love for gaming and PlayStation runs deep, and you know I’m ALWAYS ready to get on the sticks!! Just better be my limited edition one,” said James on X (formerly known as Twitter).
James is now the all-time NBA scoring leader surpassing Laker legend Kareem Abdul-Jabbar.
He says in recent PlayStation Promo that his favorite PlayStation Exclusive series is the Marvel’s Spider-Man games from Insomniac Games.
Consumers can purchase the “LeBron James Limited Edition” anywhere including the PlayStation website.
