The Lebanese authorities announced thwarting an attempt to smuggle drugs to Saudi Arabia on board a truck intended for land transport.
Lebanon's Interior Minister Bassam Mawlawi said on Twitter that the Information Division in the General Directorate of the Internal Security Forces (ISF) accomplished a new and qualitative achievement and thwarted the smuggling of 700,000 Captagon pills "that were intended to be transported by land to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia."
Mawlawi said that after careful monitoring, a Lebanese man was arrested in the Bekaa Valley.
Investigations revealed that he was linked to a wanted man involved in the largest Captagon pill smuggling operation to Arab countries.
The Minister stressed that the security forces managed to thwart three drug smuggling operations within a week.
"We will continue to do so to prevent the export of harm and evil to our brothers and protect our society and the Arab societies," Mawlawi pledged.
