The Lebanese army has recently announced the deployment of additional troops along its eastern and northern borders with Syria in an effort to enhance border security. This decision comes as part of the army's strategy to tighten monitoring procedures and maintain civil peace within the country.
According to a statement released by the army, units responsible for monitoring the northern and eastern borders have been reinforced to ensure effective control over the border situation. In addition to this, units deployed throughout Lebanon are implementing exceptional measures to safeguard security.
Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Mikati emphasized the importance of enhancing border control during a call with army and security service leaders. He highlighted the need to distance Lebanon from the repercussions of the developments in Syria and prioritize the security of the border areas.
Furthermore, the prime minister underscored the necessity of strengthening the capabilities of Lebanon's national commission for missing people, especially in light of the recent release of hundreds of prisoners from Syrian prisons. It is believed that many Lebanese citizens who went missing during the country's civil war may be held in Syrian prisons, including the notorious Saydnaya prison.
