Do you remember any particularly difficult Leaving Cert exams? Almost every year sixth-year students around the country are unanimous when voicing after the exam that a certain question stumped them or maybe a figure poised to appear never did - some may recall the year Seamus Heany passed away.
This week thousands of students all around the country packed into exam halls for the most gruelling exam of their secondary school lives, the Leaving Cert.
Although there were some odd questions appearing throughout exams this week, such as The Two Johnnies Podcast making up an English paper question, students were united in the difficulty of maths paper one, with some Twitter users saying they were brought to tears by the test.

One Twitter user wrote: “If I ever write an autobiography I’m putting Leaving Cert maths paper one under the childhood trauma section”.
Another parent of a child who sat the exam wrote: “Norma Foley hoping you can address the shambles that was the maths paper one for the Leaving Cert students of 2023!
“My daughter has never sat a state exam due to covid. She got a H2 in her Pres. And feels she failed the exam yesterday! How does that make sense?”
A student who put a great deal of work into studying for the exam wrote: “Maths is the one subject I enjoy studying and have put hours and hours of my time preparing for.
“Not only did this exam not allow me to show my dedication but it honestly deflated me for the rest of the Leaving Cert. I was so excited to do this exam and show off my hard work.”
More students chimed in with another adding: “Norma Foley you should be held responsible. This is simply not fair on sixth-year higher-level students.
“That Leaving Cert exam in HL maths was simply ridiculous, and I require a H4 to pursue my course, I don't even know if I passed. This is horrible.”
Another added that the exam brought them to tears: “Leaving Cert tears after maths paper one”.
