Leaving Cert results in 2023 are likely to be delayed for the fourth year in a row.
The exam results, which are routinely issued in mid-August, were first delayed following the onset of the pandemic in 2020. And the Irish Independent reported yesterday that the results will not be issued on time next year, although an exact date has not yet been issued.
The results for 2022 were issued in the first week of September, and there were also issues this year regarding the correction of Junior Cert examinations, with officials moving the release of results down the line in order to facilitate Leaving Cert corrections. Aodhan O’Riordan criticised the decision on Newstalk due to the knock on effects late results could have on incoming students to third level education.

He encouraged Leaving Cert pupils to call for a reform of the current exam structure, telling Newstalk: “We need to radically overhaul the Leaving Cert. It's clear from this that the students are the last people that are ever thought of by the State Examination Commission's point of view, or from the department's point of view.”
The delayed results can cause havoc on students trying to find accommodation, as well as those wanting to secure a college place abroad.
The Leaving Cert examinations now feature a second sitting in July to accommodate students who were ill or coping with a bereavement. The State Examinations Commission is also actively recruiting more exam correctors to spend up the marking process.
