Education Minister Norma Foley has confirmed that Leaving Certificate results will be released in August following several years of delayed results.
It is the first time since before the pandemic that students will not receive their grades late.
Ms Foley confirmed the State Examinations Commission [SEC] intends to issue the Leaving Certificate results on Friday, 25 August 2023.

The Fianna Fáil TD said that this is a “significant and very welcome step towards pre-pandemic norms in relation to the timing for issue of results”
Ms Foley also confirmed that the SEC will also provide deferred examinations for candidates unable to sit the main exams due to bereavement or major illness or injury.
Adjustments will once again be made to exams and assessments to account for missed school time during the pandemic.
Minister Foley said: “Thankfully, we are continuing to progress towards normality following the disruption to teaching and learning resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic. “Nevertheless, the impact of the pandemic is not yet in the past. It will have disrupted teaching and learning for the cohort of students sitting State examinations in 2023 and indeed the majority of those sitting Leaving Certificate examinations in 2024 will not have sat Junior Cycle examinations.
“In confirming adjustments to assessment for the 2024 State examinations, I am pleased to be able to give this clarity and certainty to students and I am confident that the adjustments announced today acknowledge the disruption faced by these students as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic in a proportional manner, ensure fairness and equity for students, and are educationally appropriate.”
Students have been calling for several weeks for information on when results would be published/
The announcement was welcomed across the Dáil, with Labour’s education spokesperson Aodhán Ó Ríordáin said that it has provided “clarity”.
He said: “For the last few years we have been highly critical of the Minister and the State Examinations Commission due to the persistent delays in publishing Leaving Cert results.
“I was deeply concerned that late results would persist. Delayed results have caused huge problems for students and colleges over the last few years.
“The earlier date makes a huge difference to people, allowing students and colleges a chance to plan properly. In previous years there were many students who missed out or had to defer courses they had been accepted to in The Netherlands and the UK in particular.”
