Leah Williamson reveals Emirates Stadium is starting to ‘feel like home’ for Arsenal side

Leah Williamson believes Arsenal Women are starting to make Emirates Stadium “feel like home” after scoring a last-minute equaliser to draw with Wolfsburg.

Arsenal were trailing 1-0 to the German side in the first leg of their Women’s Champions League quarter-final after Tabea Waßmuth’s goal in the opening 20 minutes.

They had looked set to be trailing ahead of next week’s second leg in Germany, but Lotte Wubben-Moy scored in the 89th minute.

It was a big result for Arsenal, who were playing at Emirates Stadium instead of their usual home of Meadow Park, and Williamson believes it is a sign of how they’re getting used to playing certain games there.

“I think the girls feel comfortable here. The club have made sure that we do feel comfortable and when we come here we feel like it is our own kind of thing,” said Williamson.

“But yeah, considering that is only my second time kitting up to go and play a game, it feels really good.

“I don’t think it hinders us. Sometimes it is basically like playing at a neutral venue, but actually this does feel like home.”

Wubben-Moy was the hero and it was particularly sweet for the centre-back as she is an Arsenal fan.

“Looking at the goal, it is a very good finish, of course it is a very special moment being a childhood fan, being at the Emirates and scoring an important goal like that,” said Arsenal Women boss Jonas Eidevall.

“You work with a player like that every day, they get to live a moment like this.

“Of course we’re all very happy for the goal as a team but also for her as an individual and understand that’s a special moment.

“Sometimes in football you experience bad times and great times like that, special, and we’re really happy for her.”
